A percentage of proceeds from next Saturday's "Connected" art show will be donated to BUILD Metro DC, where I volunteer as a mentor. BUILD is a 4-year college preparation program whose mission is to use entrepreneurship to excite and propel students through high school to college success. Since last September, I have worked with Kidz Rock, an amazing group of young entrepreneurs whose business involves planning parties and selling specialty DIY party items like their popular party-in-a-bag.
Volunteering as a mentor has been a great deal of fun and highly rewarding on many levels. I am constantly impressed with the students, the staff and volunteers. If you are interested in working with BUILD, there are currently opportunities to volunteer as mentors and tutors. Email [email protected] if you're interested in mentoring and email [email protected] if interested in tutoring. The deadline for applying is 9/21/11. Help support the efforts of BUILD by attending "Connected" next Saturday 9/24, 4-8pm at H Street Community Development Corporation, 501 H ST NE. Hope to see you there! The Arts on Foot Festival is this weekend with lots of cultural, visual arts, theater, dance, wine and cuisine events throughout Penn Quarter. Although I'll be enjoying the festivities surrounding the Nation's Football Classic on Friday and Saturday, I will be getting my art fix at the festival Sunday.
