Promotional products are excellent marketing tools. They can increase brand awareness and keep your brand and message in front of people. Whether you have a small or large budget, there are a wide variety of items available for any occasion. To get the most value from your investment, it’s useful to consider the following as you search for your ideal marketing promotional items: Purpose What is the purpose? Is it a high-end gift? Is it something for a trade show or conference? Be thoughtful about how the item will be used. For example, don’t give sugary candy at a health food conference. Target recipient What is the profile of the recipient? Consider your target audience and think about good and useful gifts for them. Recipients’ interests, hobbies, and lifestyles can offer clues. Quantity How many do you need? Think about if there are possible cost savings for buying a larger quantity. If possible, choose evergreen artwork so the items can be used for different events and purposes over time. Budget What is the overall budget? To stay in budget, be sure to include artwork set up, shipping and other extras. Imprint area I have a thing about spending money on item with a tiny imprint area. Sometimes, I’ve gone with these types of products because the item was really cool, but generally, I try to stay away from small imprint area items. Turnaround time How quickly do you need the items? Be sure to include time for creating and approving artwork as well as production and shipping. It’s a good idea to add a few days for possible delays. Color Light colored items tend to show dirt more than darker items. For example, it’s not the best idea to give a white bag for hiking excursion. Darker colors tend to be more conservative and are generally more widely liked by many people. Bright colors are great for catching people’s attention. Weight Consider the weight of the item. Heavy items will be more expensive to ship, so not necessarily the ideal item for a trade show where you’ll be shipping items across the country. Also, if your item is too heavy or bulky, it’s the first thing to get left in the hotel room when people are packing up for home. Ease of travel If your recipients will be traveling, make sure to give them something that won’t be a problem with TSA or take up too much space in their bags.
